Studio Lorenson
college work
I spent two years at Hereford College of Arts learning a wide variety of processes and mediums (such as print, painting, illustration, and ceramics). during this time I found my love for clay and sculpture.
Print and Shadow
During my time in the print workshop I photographed shadows of common household objects and responded to the images through screen printed abstract patterns.

Fashion Illustration
During this module I used my screen prints to create ink and collage designs, using magazines for model designs and inspiration. These were based on the work of Comme des Garcons.
Photoshop Skills
Before my time at HCA I had basic skills and knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, however this digital workshop included features I had not yet explored - such as making repeating patterns!

Cyanotype

While in my first year, I aimed to try as many material processes as possible. Unfortunately the pandemic affected this year quite significantly, however I completed processes such as cyanotype at home independently to fill my time!

Discovering a Love For Clay
Up until the end of my first year I considered myself purely a 2D creator, however a lucky accident landed me in the ceramics workshop! The experience was so positive that clay began to define my practice.

First Year Exhibition
My first year exhibition was a huge achievement for me, it was the first time my art has been displayed and sold!

I also learned a lot about curation and arranging work to make it look its best.

Accessible Arts
This project holds a special place in my heart, the brief was to create a piece of art with accessibility in mind. I have autism and chose to make a visual wall hanging to bring awareness to sensory issues and processing disorders. The shapes and textures are inspired by a series of microscope images I took of objects around me. This piece was displayed in the courtyard theatre in Hereford.

My second year project was a showcase of my favourite skills that I had been refining over the past two years. my goal was to create a ceramic tea set that would ultimately serve no practical purpose.
I used collage and drawings to design characters and vessels to be transformed into the ornamental tea set.

I was lucky enough to win an award for this project, however I was the most proud of the reaction it received from those who attended the exhibition. My goal was to make something to make people smile, and I received a lot of positive reactions.
