Studio Lorenson
First Year
During first year I explored as many clay processes as possible, over the course of multiple themed projects.

St Fagans Project

The first project of the year was based on a trip to St Fagans museum in Cardiff. I decided to take my work in the direction of making decorative domestic wares, with inspiration from historical cross stitch samples i saw in the museum.
I experimented with slip, sgraffito, and underglaze. I recycled a lot of things that I made because i produced a lot of samples and test pieces too.

Trying new techniques
We had a huge range of workshops, from slip casting to raku - most of these were completely new to me so adding these skills was really useful to my development!

Pottery and Poetry
This project involved making a teapot based on a poem. I chose to make a more sculptural piece, which was very large! Below you can see some of my sketch ideas - the poem I chose was about a mother cat who is defending her kittens from a fox, incorporating a narrative into artwork is something I really enjoy.

Victorian inspired majolica centrepieces

For my final project of the year I created three centrepieces inspired by Victorian food. I experimented with slip piping and mixed my own range of stained majolica glazes.
