Second Year

During my second year i focused on mixing my own glazes and developing core themes that have continued to be present through to my third year.

Over the summer I explored the concept of 'collections'. I visited the Pitt Rivers museum to make drawings, and then took examples of collections from my own life and surroundings and drew those as well. this exploration into sentimental objects went on to inform my plate project at the end of the year.

This project ran alongside an essay module focusing on the words 'insider' and 'outsider'. These two sculptures explore what it feels like to move house many times as a child.

To begin this project I knew i wanted to make my own tin glaze maiolica, I compared oxides with commercial stains to create a colour palette that would be used to make a set of personal commemorative plates.

These plates are inspired by historical commemorative pottery, and they document six important times or places in my life. They were displayed in the university foyer. My designs flowed and bled in the kiln to create a hazy, memory-like effect. These plates use oxides rather than commercial stains to achieve colour.

Third Year

During my third year at university I am working on my dissertation as well as a final body of work to encompass all of my work so far.

This project is inspired by concepts of home, belonging, and narrative, as well as historical influences such as folk and Staffordshire pottery.
